Day 16....Dubois WY, 86 miles. We left Jackson Hole by way of the bike path. We drove pass the Tetons. Breathing!! We did some more climbing to cross the continental divide. The weather started cool and finished Hot. Upon arriving in Dubois, "the real cowboy town" Dubois still has wooden sidewalks. There was a country square dance at the restaurant next to our hotel. The sidewalks rolled up promptly at 11pm. Most of us went to bed to be ready for the early ride the following day.
Day 17.....Riverton, WY, 79 miles. Left Dubois on Route 26 and within the first few miles you felt like you were in Arizona. The beautiful Red Rock formations seen along the DOWN HILL ride prevented a lot of us from taking advantage of the decline speeds because we stopped so frequently to takes pictures. Everyone arrived in Riverton smiling in record time as we again didn't have a head wind.
Day 18.... Casper, WY 119miles. There really isn't much to report on the ride from Riverton to Casper as Route 26 was a LONG LONG LONG boring road. At the first SAC which was literally in a sand lot on the side of the road. The second SAG was in the town of Hiland, which consisted of a "store"....the population in Hiland is 10 people. After Hiland, we road on for many many miles in the hot dessert sun. Frequent reapplications of sunscreen was required. 119 miles on a long boring road gives one the opportunity to do some soul searching. Most of us arrived in Casper tired, sore, sunburned and excited as most of us had never completed 119 miles in one day in over 85 degree tempts.
Day 19...REST DAY in Casper. July 4th. Nothing actually open in Casper so it was a very much needed rest day. Catch up on blogs, postcards, SLEEP, and laundry to be ready for the leg of our journey. Our next leg is 8 days of high milage days into SD
enjoy the pictures
